PoolCalculator

About

PoolCalculator exists to answer one deceptively hard question: what will a swimming pool actually cost? Contractor websites say “it depends.” Forums are full of numbers from 2015. We built free, instant calculators so you can get a realistic answer in about a minute — before you ever pick up the phone.

Who We Are

PoolCalculator was started by a small team with a shared background in residential construction and home-improvement projects — the kind of hands-on experience that comes from actually pricing out decks, additions, and pool builds, not just reading about them online. We got tired of watching friends and readers get blindsided by change orders that a decent estimate should have caught in the first place.

We stay close to contractors and current material and labor pricing so our numbers are grounded in what pools actually cost to build, not just a spreadsheet of stale national averages. When a reader tells us a figure feels off for their area, we go back and check it against real bids — that feedback loop is how the calculators keep improving.

What You’ll Find Here

Our flagship Pool Cost Estimator turns your pool type, dimensions, region, site conditions, and add-ons into an itemized low-to-high budget range — the same way real contractor bids are structured. Around it, we maintain a Pool Loan Calculator for financing, a Pool Volume Calculator for chemical dosing and equipment sizing, and a growing library of plain-English cost guides covering everything from above-ground pools to DIY inground builds.

How Our Estimates Work

Every range starts with current national average material and labor costs, then adjusts for your inputs: pool material and depth, regional labor rates, yard access, slope and soil, decking, fencing, heating, and finishes. We show ranges rather than single numbers on purpose — a single number implies a precision that no online tool can honestly deliver. Our goal is that when your contractor bids arrive, nothing on them surprises you.

Our Independence

PoolCalculator is independently operated. We don’t build pools and we don’t accept payment from builders to influence our estimates. Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you request quotes or purchase through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That’s what keeps the calculators free.

A Note on Accuracy

Our estimates are planning tools, not quotes. Soil surprises, local permit quirks, and finish upgrades are real — always compare written bids from licensed, insured contractors before committing. If you spot a number that doesn’t match what you’re seeing in the field, tell us. Reader feedback is how the calculators get sharper every year.
